“Texas City Mainland Lions Club mourns the loss of one of its Charter Members,  Lion Willie Ervin Ransom”

Lion Ransom helped Charter the Club on December 2, 1982. He was a very active member along with the other Charter Members in the early stages of the development of the Club.  He held several offices and led several committees.

Lion Willie was born on December 25, 1934 in Hallsville, Texas.  He departed this life on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

Lion Willie is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.  After moving to La Marque, he became a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Lion Willie Ransom also known as “Cowboy Willie” because he was known for his love of the Dallas Cowboys.  He was an avid golfer, fisherman, he had excellent cooking skills (especially his bar-b-que), as well as gardening, and the gift of giving of himself.

Lion Willie was employed at Schreiber & Miller store for 27 years and Star Fine Furniture store for 25 years until his health began to fail him.

One of Lion Ransom’s joys came when he was able to come to the Club Induction service and pin his only daughter Jacinta into the club he started.

Lion Willie Ransom’s service will be at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City, TX on Tuesday, August 17th. Visitation will be from 9-11 am with services immediately following (masks strictly enforced).  The burial will be private.

Please keep his immediate family, wife Ruby of 49 years and his only child Jacinta R. Urps, grandchildren Jalyn Garret and Jace Urps. He also has Brothers and Sisters and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends please keep them in your prayers.

Humbly submitted,
Paul H. Bland, President
Texas City Mainland Lions Club
