Sad News of the Passing of Long Time Lion John Carstarphen
John Carstarphen was a vibrant asset to the Galveston Lions Club and TLC before his health took a turn for the worse.
News of his passing was shared by email from his daughter, Nike Carstarphen yesterday. I’m passing this along to you.
Dear Lions Club Galveston,
I am sharing this message on behalf of my father, John Carstarphen, who was a longtime member of several Lions clubs in Galveston. He was even inducted into the Hall of Fame at the State Lions Convention in June 2011. I don’t know when he last attended Lions meetings since he started to experience dementia in about 2016. He has been living in an assisted living facility in San Antonio (near his son Chapel Carstarphen) since 2019. Sadly, he was admitted to the hospital a week ago, was diagnosed with terminal cancer (esophageal), and passed away peacefully June 9. It was all very sudden, but we are glad he didn’t suffer. We will hold a memorial service for him at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, likely during the week of July 19th. I will provide updated information as we have it.
I took the liberty to post an announcement on the Lions facebook page, although I don’t see it posted. Please feel free to forward this information to your members. He loved the Lions and was especially devoted to the camp. We will be asking people to send donations to the Camp in lieu of flowers at the memorial service. Please let me know if there’s anyone else in Lions you recommend I notify.
Warm regards,
Nike Carstarphen (his daughter)
