It is with a very heavy heart I write to let you know that I received a call from James Wheeler’s son, Mickey Wheeler this morning to let me know that James died last night at approximately 9:00 pm as a result of an automobile accident. James was the best of friends to Texas Lions Camp and to the greater family of Texas Lions and his passing will no doubt be felt from one end of the state to the other.

James served as a Texas Lions Camp President (1979-1981) when terms were two years and held many other offices and honors at the state-level that a Lion could hold. Perhaps James is best known for his tireless work as Chairman of TLC’s Camp Improvements Committee and is one of the many reasons TLC’s campus has been in a position to serve so many children over the years. He and I had many trials, battles, triumphs and adventures together and I treasure and hold dear his memory and example he set for us, but mostly I will just miss my friend.

Mickey will let me know when the family has completed James’s arrangements and I will pass that along as soon as received. Until then, God bless you and your family and we’ll visit soon.
