PCC/PDG M. Shafique Awan joined the Lions fold in 1976, as Charter President, Karachi Taimuria Lions Club in District 305 (Pakistan) and later transferred to Sugar Land Lions Club, District 2-S4, Texas in March 2013. He has held all the positions at Club, District and Multiple District Levels. He was elected Lt. District Governor in 1990-91, District Governor in 1991-92 and Council Chair in 1996-97. He has been club president four times and earned 100% President Award. He has to his credit the District Awards of Best Zone chairman, Best Service Projects Coordinator and has won the District Shield for services beyond and above the call of duty. Currently, President, Sugar Land Lions Club (2020-21), Certified Guiding Lion (2019-21) and GMT Chairperson (2019-2022), District 2-S4.
PCC/PDG Awan has been awarded Jack Wiech Fellowship and is a Life Member, TEXAS LIONS CAMP. He is a TLC Century Club Member since 2014. He is an Endowment Gift holder and has a Brick at the Texas Lions Camp. He received LIONS EYE BANK OF TEXAS Eddie H. Munger Fellowship Award and is a Life Member of Lions Eye Bank of Texas. Since transferring to District 2-S4, in the year 2013, PCC Awan has attended all the District Cabinet Meetings, all the District 2-S4 Conventions and most of the Texas State Conventions.
PCC/PDG Awan has attended Fourteen International Conventions, Six ISAME Area Leadership Forums, and Three USA/Canada Leadership Forums, (1) at Overland Park, Kansas (2013), (2) at Omaha, NB (2016), and (3) on Zoom (2020). At the International Conventions, he has served twice on Election Committee at San Diego (1999) and at Chicago (2007) and once on Credential Committee at Toronto (2014). As District Governor in 1991-92, he hosted the 19th Africa and South West Asia Lions Leadership Forum (now known as ISAME), the first ever Area Forum held in Pakistan on February 21-23, 1997, where he served as Chairman, Forum Steering Committee. He has the honor to have attended “The Lions Day with the United Nations” (LDUN) in March 2006, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
He is a Melvin Jones Fellow and holder of Grand Master Key. Lion Awan received “40 years Charter Monarch Chevron”, in 2016, and will be due for 45 years Chevron in May this year. He has been awarded Two International President’s Medals, Three International Leadership Medals and a number of International President’s Certificates of Appreciation. He has to his credit 100% Attendance Award, Five Club Extension Awards, and a number of District Governor Extension Awards. As Council Chair, he was awarded International President’s Paradigm Medal for adding a new Sub District, in 1996-97. He introduced the Lions Quest Program in MD-305 and presented a paper at the Lions World Conference on Aids & Drugs (HOPE-97), held on March 20-23, 1997 at Mumbai, India.
PCC Awan is a Civil Engineer by profession with Bachelor’s Degree from University of Karachi and two Master’s Degrees, One in Civil Engineering and the other in Public Works from UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH, USA. During his Post Graduate studies, he has been a member (on transfer) Oakland Lions Club, Pittsburgh District 14-B, Pennsylvania, in the years 1978-81, where he served on organizing Committee, Monte Carlo night and Committee on Inter club Youth Exchange Program of District 14-B.
PCC Awan is happily married to Talat, also a Melvin Jones Fellow and a long time Lion but now busy as a devoted grandmother. The couple has four children and seven grandchildren.
