Biographical Info

A Lion for over 14 years, Billie Rae upholds the principles of Lionism, is a Melvin Jones Fellow, Jack Weich Fellow, Texas Lions Camp Life Member, and Texas Eye Bank Life Member. Billie Rae has also received a Lions International President’s Medal.

Lion Gillas joined the Girdwood –Turnagain Arm Lions club in District 49A (Alaska) and during her 4 years with the club served as director, treasurer; and as Co-Chair for the Forest Fair Beer Garden fundraiser.

After a break to begin raising a family, and a move across the country, Lion Gillas joined the Galveston Lions Club in 2005; has served her local club by instituting a website, been honored by the club as Lion of the year and served as Co-Chair of the Oyster Roast fundraiser. Lion Gillas has also served the Galveston club on its board of directors continuously since 2006, as Tail Twister, Treasurer, 1st and 2nd Vice President as well as President.

Lion Gillas has received the 100% President award, served as Lions World Services for the Blind Chair East, Co-Editor of the Lion Tale newsletter, Zone One Chair– which encompassed 14 clubs by the end of 2012-2013, and as 2nd and 1st Vice District Governor.

From 2006 to present, Lion Gillas serves her community through the AARP/IRS TaxAide program as a certified, volunteer tax preparer.  Nothing quite says Geek like doing taxes for fun.

Lion Gillas and her husband Lion Joe Gillas, also a Melvin Jones Fellow, have one son James – aka the Male Carbon Unit, a charter member and President of the Ball High School Leo Club.
