Past International President, Dr Ashoke Mehta of Mumbia, India, passed away

I have received a sad message from Mumbai, India that PIP Dr ASHOKE Mehta of Mumbai, India, has passed away.

Dr ASHOKE Mehta was President of Lions Clubs International in the year 2005-2006. I remember him very well as one of the great lion leaders having high respect for the lions when I was still in District 305, Pakistan, prior to my transfer here in District 2, Texas, USA.
Besides meeting him in Karachi and Mumbai, I met him at the historic Lions Event at UN Headquarters at New York, where as a registered delegate, I attended the 28th Lions Day with the United Nations, on Friday, March 10, 2006.
Being the host, Dr ASHOKE MEHTA the then International President, was the first speaker of the day.
His presentation mainly mentioned the humanitarian initiatives undertaken by Lions and the United Nations. He emphasized the role of LCIF to meet the challenges of destruction caused by the natural calamities occurring around the globe.
Later, as a required aspect of the Day, Dr Mehta then presented the awards and cash prizes to the three top winners of the Peace Poster Contest (a great annual feature of LCI) and described it’s importance how to reach out the children in their communities and provide an outlet for these future leaders to express their vision of peace.
May I feel privileged to add here that this year again, I have registered for the forthcoming VIRTUAL “Lions Day with the UN” to be held on April 10,  to represent my club of Sugar Land and my District 2-S4.
At this point, I would like to request the lions of District 2-S4 to attend this first ever virtual Lions Day with the United Nations (LDUN) in the comfort of their own home.
This is a unique chance to participate in the historic joint event of “Lions & the UN” without any hassle of travel and expenses, and is highly recommended.
